Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a chronic intestinal condition, the cause of which is still not fully understood.

IBS is often trivialised by medical professionals since the condition is not thought to lead to serious consequences, however its symptoms are very unpleasant and this can significantly impact patients' lives. It is estimated that 10% to 15% of the general population suffers from this condition, however only half will ever seek medical attention.

The chronic nature of IBS and the challenge of controlling its primary symptoms, which consist of abdominal pain and bowel habit alterations, can be frustrating for both patients and health care providers. However, there are treatments, therapies and dietary interventions that can help.

If you are experiencing bowel disturbances and think you might suffer from the condition, our medical professionals at St. Anne’s are committed to offer you with up to date medical advice and treatment.
